Nebraskan Thistles

Midwest, June 2006

On my way to see Dol in Texas, I passed through the great states of North and South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. These are pictures from that journey—at least one from each state.

The winds of North Dakota bid me farewell. This South Dakota gas station convenience store featured some squirrels in need of a dental checkup. How did that antelope get its head stuck in the wall? The heavenly light of Iowa shines down behind me. What beauty one finds, just off the side of the highway!
Corn isn’t the only yellow plant that grows in Iowa. A passing shot of Omaha. A lovely field of thistles, just before the border of Nebraska with Kansas. I paused here for the sunset.
Another beautiful farm field, even closer to the border. On the Kansas turnpike, somewhere south of Topeka. The hills of Oklahoma.
