Embassy Exteriors
This building, once known as the Republican Palace, became the U.S. Embassy after our 2003 invasion. The central section dates back to the pre-Saddam era, but Saddam had the north and south wings built after the 1991 Gulf War. This building is where I spent most of my time during the deployment. While I was there, the new U.S. Embassy, built from scratch, was nearing completion but still not in use.
